Anthony Zimmermann

Anthony E. Zimmermann received his B.S. degree in Pharmacy and Pharm.D. from the School of Pharmacy, University of Maryland at Baltimore. He was Clinical Coordinator and Director of Pharmacy at Harbor Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He then joined the faculty at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Boston before transferring to the inaugural Worcester Campus to help spearhead the development of the pharmacy practice program at the new college as a senior member. He was the clinical coordinator of the pharmacy department at Holyoke Medical Center where he developed and implemented a clinical pharmacy program.  Recently, he was the inauguaral Department Chair of Pharmacy Practice at the new College of Pharmacy at Western New England University with all its responsibilities.  Dr. Zimmermann co-developed and implemented a PGY1 residency program prior to the full accreditation of the college. He actively works with junior faculty in the area of collaborative research. He is the Chair of the COPHS Institutional Review Board.

Dr. Zimmermann’s practice and areas of expertise are in critical care medicine, as well as infectious disease, gastroenterology, and pulmonary medicine. Educational areas of interest include interactive problem-based learning, use of flowcharts as a teaching method and curriculum design to prepare students to become patient-based pharmacy practitioners. Dr. Zimmermann reviews national and internationally peer-reviewed journals. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and has lectured nationally and internationally at meetings and conferences.

Recently, he helped design a PGY1 residency program at Mercy Medical Center where he is preceptor for the Intensive Care and Academia rotations.
